American Welding Neck Flange (WN Flange) is the core connector of American Standard piping system, adopting tapered neck and full penetration weld design, optimized for high pressure (Class150~2500), high temperature and hazardous media scenarios. Its structure complies with ASME B16.5/B16.47 standards, and is widely used in petroleum, chemical and energy fields. It has become the preferred solution for industrial pipelines due to its excellent stress dispersion ability and long-term reliability.
American Slip on Flange (SO flange) Structures
Flange Ring
Sealing face types include raised face (RF) and flat face (FF) with a raised face height of 2.0 to 3.0 mm for non-metallic gaskets.
Short Hub
The height is usually 10-15 mm (NPS 6” for example), which is used to increase the flange stiffness, but does not allow for stress dispersion.
Weld Connection
Internal and external fillet weld design (Fillet Weld), the height of the weld foot should be ≥ 1.5 times the pipe wall thickness.
American Slip on Flange vs Welding Neck Flange
| comparison term | SO flange | WN Flange |
| Neck design | Short straight neck, local stiffness only | Long taper neck for stress dispersion |
| Weld Type | Fillet Weld, not full penetration | Butt Weld, full penetration |
| Stress Adaptability | Limited to Class300 and below | Supports Class2500 high voltage |
