We have been manufacturing and selling pipe fittings for more than 20 years, selling low prices and producing high quality pipe fittings are our obvious advantages, welcome to inquire.
American Butt Weld 180° Return is a U-shaped butt-welding elbow for pipework systems, which enables the transport of fluids in the opposite direction by means of a 180° design and is suitable for compact space layouts.
American Butt Weld 180° Return
- Withstands ≥1000 PSI and ≤800°F (depending on material) for extreme service conditions.
- Manufacturing standards: in accordance with ASME B16.9, MSS-SP-43 and other international norms.
- Typical conditions: high-temperature steam piping, high-pressure fluid transport, corrosive media (such as acid and alkali solutions).
- Support non-standard sizes, special materials (such as duplex stainless steel) and surface treatment (polishing, sandblasting, etc.).
Long radius vs. short radius
American Butt Weld 180° Return divided into two categories by bending radius (R):
- Long Radius (LR): Bending Radius R = 1.5 × D (D is the nominal diameter)
- Short Radius (SR): Bending radius R = 1.0 × D
| Parameter | Long radius (LR) | Short radius (SR) | Standard basis |
| Bending radius (R) | 1.5D | 1.0D | ASME B16.9 |
| Centre distance (CLR) | 3D | 2D | MSS SP-43 |
| Flow resistance factor (K value) | 0.3-0.5 | 0.5-0.8 | Crane TP-410 |
| Minimum Wall Thickness Compensation | 12% | 22% | ASME B16.9-2024 |
Long radius vs. short radius Advantage
Long Radius (LR):
Advantage: low turbulence, low pressure loss, suitable for high flow rate/high viscosity media (e.g. crude oil, slurry).
Typical applications: refinery main process pipelines, LNG long-distance pipelines.
Short Radius (SR):
Advantage: space saving (33% less installation length than LR), suitable for compact layouts (e.g. offshore platforms, modular plants).
Limitations: Not suitable for media containing solid particles, additional wall thickness compensation is required to prevent the occurrence of localized erosion.
