Elbow
Elbows are one of the most important fittings in a piping system, primarily serving to change the direction of the pipeline flow, enabling changes in direction at 45°, 90°, or 180°. Additionally, elbows help reduce turbulence in the transported material and lower internal pipeline pressure. Today, we will conduct a comprehensive analysis of elbows based on their standards, materials, and turning angles, and provide a clear overview of their dimensions. At the bottom of the article, you will find the types of elbows we offer for sale. If you have any requirements, please feel free to contact us. We can also produce special sizes upon request. We welcome your inquiries!

Different Degree of Elbow
Elbows are available in degrees of 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 90°, 180°, and special degrees. Different bending angles have significant differences in their functions and application scenarios. Below, we will introduce elbows based on their degrees, combined with bending radii. The data complies with standards such as ASME B16.9.
45-Degree Elbow
Primarily used in building systems, especially in building plumbing and HVAC systems. The 45-degree elbow enables a smooth, low-angle turn in the piping system, minimizing fluid resistance while achieving system directional changes.
90-Degree Elbow
90-degree elbow: Primarily used in fire protection system connections and industrial equipment connections, commonly found in densely piped industrial systems. A 90-degree turn allows for a more compact pipeline system design with higher space utilization. In such scenarios, elbow usage can reach up to 75%.
180-Degree Elbow
180-degree elbows: Primarily used in the chemical industry, especially in cold-zone facilities, circulation systems, and steam recirculation systems within the chemical industry. They not only meet industrial requirements but also effectively eliminate residual pressure in the medium.
Other angles include special angles such as 12 degrees, 15 degrees, and even 11.5 degrees, which are used in fire protection systems. Some pipeline systems may require reducer elbows. For special elbows, please contact us, and we will customize them for you.

In addition to the angle of the elbow, when selecting one, it is also important to consider the bending radius. Bending radii are divided into two types: short radius (curvature ratio 1.0D), which can save over 35% of installation space; and long radius (curvature ratio 1.5D), which has a pressure-reducing effect, reducing pressure drop by 55%. Therefore, when selecting an elbow, it is essential to choose carefully based on the specific application scenario.

Butt Welding Elbow
Butt-welded elbows are suitable for high-pressure systems, offering excellent sealing performance at the joint. They are available in a wide range of sizes and can be used for large-diameter pipelines. Butt-welded fittings can be inspected via radiographic or ultrasonic testing, ensuring higher quality.

Socket Welding Elbow
Socket-welded fittings offer flexible and convenient installation, making on-site adjustments easier. The connection points are smooth with no burrs, reducing fluid resistance in the pipeline system. However, they are only suitable for small-diameter pipelines and cannot be used in high-pressure systems.

Material of The Pipe Elbow
Different materials are used for elbows in different applications. Choosing the right material not only reduces costs but also ensures the longevity of the piping system. This article will primarily introduce three materials: carbon steel, stainless steel, and PVC.
Carbon Steel Elbow
Pressure: Withstands pressures up to 400 MPa or higher
Processing: Supports various connection methods such as welding and flanging
Surface: Galvanized for enhanced corrosion resistance
Applications: Oil and gas transportation, boiler piping, building fire protection
Stainless Steel Elbow
Corrosion Resistance: Withstands pH ranges from 2 to 11
High-Temperature Resistance: -196°C to 800°C
Certification: FDA-certified
Application Scenarios: Biochemical engineering, nuclear power plants, etc.
PVC Elbow
Lightweight: Low density of 1.4 g/cm³, lightweight
Temperature Resistance: ≤60°C
Easy Installation: No welding required
Application Scenarios: Water supply and drainage, agricultural irrigation, wastewater treatment
In summary, in terms of durability: stainless steel > carbon steel (galvanized) > PVC; in terms of cost: stainless steel > carbon steel > PVC; in terms of lifespan: stainless steel > PVC > carbon steel. Therefore, purchasers should not rely solely on data from a single dimension but should consider multiple factors comprehensively to select the most suitable material.
Threaded of Elbow
Threaded connections for bent pipes are only suitable for small diameters (DN ≤ 50) and medium- to low-pressure systems. When selecting a model, it is necessary to strictly comply with standard specifications and add anti-loosening structures (such as lock nuts) in critical operating conditions. For high-pressure/high-temperature scenarios, butt-welded elbows should be used.
