EN/ BS Flang

EN/ BS Flang

‌EN/BS flange is a pipe fitting designed in accordance with European or British standards, usually made of stainless steel, carbon steel and other materials. This flange is used to connect pipes, valves and equipment by welding, threading or bolting. Its standardized specifications include a variety of pressure levels and closing surface types. It is widely used in industries such as petrochemicals, energy, electricity and water treatment systems. This flange is more suitable for medium and high pressure environments. When choosing a flange, factors such as media compatibility, pressure requirements and compliance with relevant standards should be considered to ensure the safety of the system.

EN/ BS Flang Specifications

Standard Classification

EN Standard: The general specification for flange design is the European standard EN 1092-1, which defines a variety of pressure classes and material types, and covers the design of many closing face types such as flat face, raised face and tongue and groove face.

BS Standard:The flange dimensions, number of bolt holes and connection methods are specified in British Standard BS 4504.

Connection and Sealing

Connection method: EN/BS flanges are usually connected by butt welding (WN), threaded (Th) or socket welding (SW). Different connection methods have their own advantages.

Sealing surface design: flat surface (FF), raised surface (RF) and tongue and groove surface (TG), etc.

Fittings and Surface treatment

Gasket: To ensure the best sealing performance, the gasket must match the sealing surface type. For example, PN10 flat flange (RF surface) usually requires a rubber gasket, and PN40 TG surface requires a metal spiral wound gasket.

Bolts: To follow the standard and grade to choose, PN16 flanges should use 8.8 grade carbon steel bolts. PN requires A193 B7 alloy bolts

Surface treatment: In order to enhance the corrosion resistance of the flange, polishing and plating are required.
