ASTM A135, an American Standard Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) carbon steel pipe, is designed for use in low-pressure fluid transfer systems, where the galvanized coating provides basic corrosion protection, but the zinc coating oxidizes and fails at elevated temperatures. Pipe fittings experience yield strength decay above 300°C, and at 500°C the residual strength is less than 40% of room temperature, relying on external fire protection coatings to achieve fire resistance integrity.

Chemical Composition Analysis

  • Carbon (C)  ≤0.30%
  • Manganese (Mn)  0.30-1.00%
  • Phosphorous (P)  ≤0.035%
  • Sulfur (S)  ≤0.035%

The composition of ASTM A135 steel pipe is designed to give priority to protecting the workability of the material and its corrosion resistance, which can be protected by a galvanized coating.

ASTM A135 Steel Pipe Process & Quality

ASTM A135 Steel Pipe Process

ASTM A135 is American Standard welded steel pipe, the core process is high frequency resistance welding technology.
The post-welding heat treatment process adopts normalizing treatment, the temperature is: 900 ± 20 ℃, can eliminate welding residual stress, decomposition of untempered martensite, enhance the toughness of the weld.
ERW process in the field of low-pressure transmission with significant cost-effective, but high-temperature and high-pressure conditions require the use of seamless pipe.
