Socket Weld Coupling is a forged pipe fitting for connecting pipes by socket welding for small diameter (usually ≤NPS 2/DN50) high pressure systems with high sealing, structural strength and flexibility of fitment.
American Socket Weld Coupling
- The socket welded structure provides a fully closed connection through fillet welds with very low risk of leakage and is suitable for piping systems with high pressure (e.g. Class 9000) or corrosive media (e.g. chemical fluids, steam).
- No need for prefabricated bevels, the pipe is directly inserted into the socket hole and welded, which reduces calibration errors and is especially suitable for small diameter (NPS ≤ 4) pipelines with space constraints.
- The socket weld structure complies with the ASME B16.11 standard, ensuring that the dimensional tolerances are coordinated with the pressure-temperature class, so that it can be seamlessly integrated into the pipeline system that complies with the US standard.
- Post-weld inspection: Penetration testing (PT/MT) of weld surfaces is required, and radiographic testing (RT) is prohibited to avoid structural damage.
- In actual operation, the welding process needs to maintain an expansion gap of 1.6mm to prevent the weld from cracking due to thermal stress.
