American threaded 90° elbows are pipe steering fittings threaded through the ASME B1.20.1 standard tapered pipe, manufactured using a forging process, and are suitable for use in low-pressure systems such as fire protection and cooling water. Its sealing relies on mechanical fastening of the threads to the raw material tape, making it easier to install than butt-weld elbows but with lower pressure capacity. The standard radius of curvature reduces fluid resistance, and special material versions can cope with corrosive media.

Comparison of long radius and short radius elbows
- Long Radius Elbow (1.5D) Short Radius Elbow (1.0D).
- Radius of curvature: 1.5 times the nominal diameter is equal to the nominal diameter of the pressure loss is reduced by 30% -50% of the fluid resistance is easy to produce turbulence and scouring.
- Space requirements: 57% increase in installation length for compact spaces.
- Applicable standards: GB/T12459-2017 preferred SH/T3059 limited to the maximum pressure degradation of 20%.
- Typical applications: slurry transportation, high-pressure steam boiler flue, jacketed pipe.
American Threaded 90° Elbow Dimensional Tolerance
Outside diameter deviation: ±0.8mm for ≤NPS 2, ±1%OD for >NPS2
Angle tolerance: 45 ° / 90 ° elbow allows ± 0.5 ° deviation
Carbon steel to meet ASTM A105, stainless steel to meet ASTM A182 F304/316
