The American Threaded Reducing Cross is a four-way reducer fitting manufactured using a forging process. It features conical threads (NPT/BSPT) for a sealed connection and is suitable for high-pressure, high-temperature piping systems. Its key feature is that the diameter of the central interface differs from that of the three branch interfaces. This fitting complies with the ASME B16.11 standard, with materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, and alloy steel. It supports a maximum pressure rating of 6000 lb (DN ≤ 65 mm) and is widely used in pipeline diversion applications across the petroleum, chemical, and power industries.
American Threaded Reducing Cross Specification
1. American Threaded Reducing Cross: Reducing Combination
The difference in diameter should not exceed two grades. For example, 1“ → 3/4” → 1/2“ is acceptable, but 1” → 1/2″ is not permitted. Additionally, the branch diameter must be smaller than the main diameter.
Typical combinations:
DN50 (2“) × DN40 (1.5”) × DN25 (1″) for petroleum
DN80 (3“) × DN50 (2”) × DN80 (3″) for chemical reaction systems
DN65 (2.5“) × DN40 (1.5”) × DN40 (1.5″) for fire protection systems
2. Pressure ratings
Pressure ratings are divided into three grades:
2000LB—for low-pressure systems
3000LB—for petrochemical systems
6000LB—for high-pressure applications
3. Comparison of stainless steel and carbon steel performance
| Property | Carbon Steel (A105) | Stainless Steel (F304) |
| Corrosion Resistance | Low (requires galvanizing) | High (chromium-nickel composition) |
| High-Temperature Strength | Rapid decline (>300°C) | Stable (<600°C) |
| Cost | Low (~1/3 price of stainless steel) | High (special smelting processes) |
